[ THE UNCONVENTIONAL LIST ]
Despite being known for its "coffee shops", Amsterdam has so much more to offer than just smoking. See my post "20 Things to do in Amsterdam" for ideas and suggestions.
Austin, TX (USA)
Known for being the "live music capital of the world", Austin is a place that often gets looked over, but shouldn't! Austin is the host to two massive music festivals, SXSW and Austin City Limits. Even if you don't plan to travel to Austin for those, you will not be disappointed by the music scene in this city. While you are there don't forget to try the BBQ, tacos, and organic food (usually best out of a food truck).
Iceland (not just Reykjavik)
Just to clarify, I do think Reykjavik is an amazing city and you should visit it on your trip to Iceland, but I would very highly recommend to not let it be your only stop in Iceland. The entire country has so much to see (despite being a small island), and is so unique in different regions of the county. You can explore the whole country in a little over a week!
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
I know what some of you are thinking, "I don't want to go lay on a beach for a week!" Well good thing Punta Cana has so much more to offer including excursions you can book at your hotel and some really fun and interesting clubs in the city. You will definitely be able to have an adventure in Punta Cana!
I know, it is a very broad of a location, but the entire country is beautiful and there are so many amazing towns to visit, I couldn't just pick one. Make sure to switch it up and visit some of Switzerland's small towns to meet the super friendly locals, then spend some time in the larger cities too, but definitely don't forget to hike the Swiss Alps!
Costa Rica (the volcanoes and rainforest)
Yes, the beaches of Costa Rica are beautiful, but you can visit those later in life. Have fun exploring and hiking the volcanoes and rainforest, go bird watching, go to a festival, and finish the day soaking in one of the country's many natural hot springs. Don't miss out on the night life, even in the small towns the locals are ready to dance and party!
While visiting Munich during Oktoberfest is definitely on my bucket list, it also makes an awesome stop on a Europe adventure/road trip. Going to the Hofbraeuhaus is a must! The building is massive and as soon as you walk through the door, the party has started. When you're done drinking, see the town and all that Munich really has to offer, it has a beautiful medieval vibe that will make you feel like you stepped back in time.
Nashville, TN (USA)
Similar to Austin, this US city is often overlooked as a must visit destination. Nashville is known as the town where all of the country singers/artists get their start or live, but even if you are not a fan of country music or don't know what it is, you will love your time there. The city is such an experience that you have to be apart of to fully understand and is one experience that everyone (not just Americans) should get to enjoy!
